It’s amazing how far people are prepared to go to spin a story round even the shortest of lyrics. That’s the case with the eight or so lines that wind their way through “White Winter Hymnal”. In all probability it’s not a song about very much at all, no matter what the various lengthy and literal interpretations out there will have you believe, more a mood piece, meant to evoke a general spirit more than tell a specific tale. It’s a beautiful and warming harmony-piece, so just enjoy the rise and fall, and don’t be wasting too much time analysing the words beyond how their sound complements the melody.
