It’s a strange sensation when you find yourself falling hard for a song that reminds you so strongly of a band that’s under-represented in your music collection. There’s more than just a little reminder of The Pretenders in Remember The Highs: the band do their bit, but Little Lapin’s vocals also do much to evoke Chrissie Hynde. Not that it sounds like a tribute act. Not at all. Remember The Highs forges a character of its own, from its confident bass-less opening and simple hook, through its repeated lyrical preoccupations and the guitar lines that punctuate them. It’s got the feel of something classic, without sounding dated or reverential.

If I’m not your baby anymore

Why do you still answer when I call?

If I’m not your baby anymore

Why do I still think of you at all?
