Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice
I think we can probably agree that composer John Barry’s Japanese infusion for the soundtrack of You Only Live Twice was a tad more convincing than Sean Connery’s. Roger Moore cops a lot of flak for his corny-era Bond performances, but I don’t remember anyone trying to pass him off as a ninja in training just by giving him a bit of a haircut.
The arrangement for the string section in You Only Live Twice is bordering on perfection; without its re-recorded version of that melody, Robbie Williams’ 1998 hit Millennium would have been pretty nondescript. Even Millennium’s hooked-on-classics take on the theme sounds good:
Good, but about one tenth as good as Nancy singing the original.
