Spirea X - Chlorine Dream
Foolishly, I ignored everything else Spirea X did, assuming it would be more of the murky psychedelia on show in Chlorine Dream, but Fireblade Skies is a far brighter album, albeit one that does little to hide its 60s influence on its acoustic strumalongs and jangles. There’s more than a hint of Spiritualized about Sisters and Brothers, and Rollercoaster brings the surprise electro that pops the same thought into your head that Polar Bear does half-way through The Charlatans debut Some Friendly: ‘they thought this would fit here?’
