Round-Up
BETS - Don’t Give a F*ck
Rude…
Don’t be fooled by the laid back rhythm, the pops and beats - it’s about exactly what you’re thinking it’s about: rising above it, not letting the bastards get you down, doing your thing and not worrying. Sentiments I heartily applaud. Look out for an album from BETS, Days Hours Nights, due out in 2015.

Cold Cold Heart - Megan
Sometimes you don’t want to use the words you know everyone else is going to use. Sometimes you just face up to the fact that they’re accurate. Megan is a gorgeous, atmospheric, swelling, crescendoing piece of orchestral post-rock from Cold Cold Heart - music that says everything without using any words.

Cold Weather Company - Jasmine
Some alt-folk out of New Jersey for you now. Jasmine is the new single from Cold Weather Company, taken from their debut album Somewhere New, released on January 22nd. See - sometimes I write about them while they’re still fresh off the tree.

Sylva Faye - Six
Popular music needs more flautists. There, I said it.
People often forget what a beautiful-sounding instrument the flute can be. My flute teacher, for example - he used to forget, most weeks, for about an hour or so.. Embouchure, he would say, and I would nod and carry on with my approximation of the piece in front of me. At least he was spared my sight reading.
Sylva Faye is a session flautist turned singer-songwriter. On Six (and its flipside Tumble You) she deftly demonstrates an obvious knack for a hook with a subtly deployed flute melody to create an intriguing combination that’s part folk, part indie, part jazz, and all mesmeric.

Hanne Kolstø - All is Contagious
All is Contagious is the lead single from Forever Maybe, Hanne Kolstø’s fourth album in four years. It’s sharp and synthy with just the right amount of space left over to throw in some power pop riffage.

Le Noire - Fire
This dirty beast is in no hurry to wrap itself around you, but it will get there, don’t worry. By the end you’ll be caught up in its menace. And not only does the song from LA’s Le Noire deliver a powerful kick, but it also comes with an award-winning video written and directed by Brian Harrison.

That’s your six. Now be about your business once more.
