East India Youth - CAROUSEL
Total Strife Forever, the debut album from East India Youth, was among RRP’s top 25 albums of 2014, so the news that William Doyle was ready to follow it up with another new album in 2015 was met with yelps, shrieking and an unhealthy amount of hi-fiving.
All that over-excited behaviour became becalmed awe by the quiet magnificence of CAROUSEL. Leaving the skewed, frenetic electronic beauty of Total Strife Forever behind, CAROUSEL grows from more organic soil and with a wilful absence of urgency. Subtle synth variations support Doyle’s voice as it rises, slowly, in pitch and intensity, before calm is restored. Then, at the last, the sound of a fly-by from a thousand alien craft leads into the fade.
Culture of Volume will be released on 6th April on XL Recordings, Doyle having signed for the label after previously releasing music on Stolen Recordings and TQPC (The Quietus Phonographic Corporation).
