Having dug deep into my memory last month for fabulous artists that have fallen by the wayside, in June I’ll be walking a similar road. This month, however, it’s not the artist that have been lost along the way so much as the songs.

Some started life as b-sides before becoming more well-known, some were only reluctantly released as singles, others never released at all. A few are best known for appearing on soundtracks, but were never included on a studio album: miss the film, and you probably didn’t know about the song either. Some fall into more than one of these categories. There’s only one song in the last that started out on a studio album, but it gets in because it only became well-known after being very reluctantly released as a single.
