Noisy Norwegian shoegazing largely emanating from the musical brain of Emil Nikolaisen. Well-known in Norwegian rock circles, not so much outside Norway despite the adulation that rained down on Serena-Maneesh’s self-titled debut album from the likes of Pitchfork and Drowned in Sound, Nikolaisen is a multi-instrumentalist and producer (on Carmen Villain’s 2013 album Sleeper his credits are listed as “Bass, Bongos, Clapping, Cowbell, Drums, Engineer, Guitars, Mixing, Percussion, Producer, Shaker, Tambourine, Wood Block”).

In 2008, Nikolaisen rejected the sterile air of the recording studio in favour of a cave outside Oslo, where he worked on Serena-Maneesh’s second album. Recently it was announced that he was collaborating with Lindstrøm and Todd Rundgren: the resulting album, Runddans will be released later this year on the Smalltown Supersound label.
