While listening to this magnificently chilled track from Meeka Kates just now I lost all sense of time and space, finding myself carried further and further away on each wisp of The Waves. Round and round went the central acoustic guitar refrain, as the bass pulsated and Kates’ voice drifted in and out. As the world spun gently around me I could just make out a few faces, etched on each were visible signs of calm contentment. And then the music faded and I could hear only waves.

In the morning I let her go…

And then I realised I was supposed to be writing a few words about The Waves, and so I cobbled together something about a daydream and thought it rather a good metaphor for the sensation of being lost in the hazy dream-folk of the song.
